• Our smartphone based mobile payment service is past the phase where we simply look to grow our user base. Now, we are working to create and expand the way we move money, beyond just payments. The advantages that we created by combining our existing business with payment services has become an inextricable part of our value proposition to users. Users’ ability to sell something on Mercari and then use that money to buy something else with Merpay definitively sets us apart from other services. Our financial closing for the year ended June 30, 2022, saw users reach 13.45 million for Merpay alone, revenue reach 24.26 billion yen, and operating profit reach 1.51 billion yenall of which represented new records for the company.
• We need to accelerate development across Mercari Group’s many dev teams if we are to achieve the new user experience we are aiming for. That’s why we’re looking for you to join us as a frontend engineer.
• Since Merpay’s launch in February 2019, we have developed and released many features. Now, in 2022, we are trying to eliminate the technical debt that we’ve carried since the initial release and improve the quality of our service. Specifically, in terms of frontend development, that means setting the baseline at non-feature requirements that control the user experiencesuch as security, performance, and accessibility (a11y)and working to improve them. It also means creating the mechanisms and dashboards that can help us continuously visualize that data. The Frontend Team ultimately aims to create the same kind of user experience across both our web application and native app. There are a wide variety of challenges we need to grapple with in order to accomplish that goal, such as implementing mechanisms that can act as a bridge for communication with the native app and that can talk to backend microservices.

• As Mercari continues to become a rising platform in the market attracting up to 100 million users, Merpay has laid out its mission to provide new value to customers on top of what Mercari already offers. As a software engineer (frontend) at Merpay, you will work on web application development for Merpay’s payment and financial services. We are a payment and financial service that not only engages in B2B service development but also B2C service development. You can get the opportunity to be involved in both.
