The Associate Consultant / Consultant position role reports, on a line-management basis, to the Japan Head of Research with day-to-day reporting for specific projects to research peers in the Asia Pacific division and beyond. The primary function of the AC/C role is to successfully execute the strategic objectives of Euromonitor Custom research clients. The incumbent is central to the running and further growth of Euromonitor’s ad hoc research capacity. They must be self-starting, autonomous individuals willing and able to take on full personal responsibility for delivering projects to full client satisfaction. Currently we seek candidates who are both highly qualified for this role and capable and aspiring to quickly advance to take on greater team responsibility.

Primary and Secondary Research: Conduct thorough, detailed desk research on a regular basis across multiple studies to gain a thorough understanding of project objectives with the goal of better informing the client and the consulting team.

Research Management: Seamless and proactive client communication from project inception through project completion, skilled at negotiating expectations and ensuring that all core objectives are met. Polished and professional presentation of findings via phone and in-person to clients to ensure that all client objectives have been met. Understanding, maintaining and developing the relationship between Euromonitor and any custom research client. The planning of projects including development of briefs, templates and other supporting materials necessary for meeting all project objectives. Conducting preliminary research into new project areas in order to develop more useful project documents.

Project Execution: The day to day line management of any contract analysts including regular communication via phone and email, establishing schedules and administering final payments. Work closely with the Research Recruiter to ensure that projects are adequately resourced and that the pool and quality of contract analysts matches project volume and complexity. A full review of all generated materials via querying, validation and final interpretation of data and analysis to fully meet client objectives with consistent and high-quality output.

Team and Development: Mentoring junior staff via day-to-day knowledge transfers, offering immediate feedback and applied training activities when necessary. Assisting and occasionally running training sessions on key areas for improvement or areas of expertise. Participate in certain portions of new hiring when deemed necessary by Consulting Manager. Liaise with colleagues within and across offices to create, capture, organize and distribute best practices into appropriate tracking tools and promote organizational innovation. Be a champion for cross-department alignment and collaboration.

Commercial Activities: Support repeat and extension proposals for clients with whom you have previously worked. Visit prospective clients to help explain our methodology and close new business for our department. Participate in and run trainings for other departments regarding Consulting Research capabilities and recent project successes.

Requirements

  • A Bachelor’s Degree with at least 2 -4 years of proven research or consulting experience
  • Experience in presenting to and managing expectations with clients at an executive level
  • Experience evaluating, manipulating and analyzing numerical data
  • Experience managing or leading small market research teams with hands-on management skills
  • Highly numerate and possess an analytical mindset, critical thinker with a structured yet creative approach to problem solving
  • Highly developed research skills and knowledge of desk research and sources, trade interviewing and a solid understanding of and/or experience in strategy and competitive analysis
  • Ability to work under pressure and to meet tight deadlines
  • First class organizational skills, including prioritization, scheduling, multi-tasking and comprehensive, unfailing attention to detail Advanced PowerPoint and Excel skills
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills in Native Japanese and Fluent English(Need to be resident in Japan)
