About the role:

The Compliance Director, Japan will report to the Regional VP of Regulatory Compliance in Singapore and be responsible for supporting Crypto.com’s regulated businesses in their regulatory compliance obligations in Japan,, including, identifying and assessing licensing needs, preparing and submitting regulatory reporting in support of various licenses, maintaining program documentation and tracking, managing regulatory examinations and compliance independent reviews / external audits and driving finding, recommendations and observations. You are expected to lead the local compliance team and work closely with different functions as well as local teams to achieve the objectives. You will also support the regional director to ensure robust policies, controls are in place across Crypto.com’s regulated businesses, and that they remain in line with regulatory change.


In this role, you will:

  • Take the lead of the Japan compliance team to achieve the objective and meet the expectations of Japan Compliance requirements end to end.
  • Work with internal stakeholders (eg Legal, Compliance, ITSecurity, etc) and external stakeholder (external Legal Counsel, consultants, business partners) to assure quality and accurate response(s)/submission(s) to regulators with regard to licensing, registration and/or ongoing operational reporting;
  • Work with different functions and local teams to assure a world-class regulatory regime;
  • Assist with the periodic review of policies and procedures;
  • Serve as the designated MLRO/Compliance officer for Japan;
  • Manage internal compliance operational controls, independent reviews and regulatory examinations as required;
  • Identify, highlight and manage regulatory risks, findings and recommendations identified internally, by independent reviews or examinations;
  • Work with management and staff to ensure that the business implements and maintains suitable systems and controls to meet the regulatory requirements.
  • Ensure complaint management process is performing as required;
  • Respond to law enforcement requests and inquiries;
  • Continually and actively develop technical knowledge in relation to the regulatory framework governing the company and its activities;
  • Perform any other duties and responsibilities required to ensure all Crypto.com companies do so in accordance with local regulations.

Requirements

  • Minimum of five years of relevant experience in complex retail/consumer financial services/payment services organizations with multiple financial products, or a regulatory agency or law firm involving compliance issues relating to anti money laundering, and related payments services laws and regulations;
  • Understanding of anti-money laundering regulations, cryptocurrency regulation and payments laws within the banking/financial services industry;
  • Knowledge of AML/KYC tools;
  • Ability to distil and discern important information from regulatory guidance, statutes and regulations, audit findings, and other documents and determine how it impacts the business. Understanding of regulatory requirements vs. best practices in compliance is critical;
  • Must be able to lead the team with advanced leadership, perform independently and with minimal supervision;
  • Strong organizational skills must be multi-tasked oriented and able to balance pressure and deadlines with constantly changing priorities;
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills in English and Japanese. Ability to prioritise workload in line with tight deadlines and work effectively under pressure;
  • Excellent written communication business and project reports;
  • Experience interacting with local regulators (JFSA) a plus;
  • Experience working with an organisation licensed under the Payment Services Act, Financial Instruments and Exchange Act, Act on Sales of Financial Instruments a plus;
  • CAMS certification, or willingness to obtain, preferred;
  • Knowledge of digital assets and fintech products is preferred
