As an Associate Legal Counsel within the Commercial, Distribution, amp; Regulatory Legal Team of DAZN Japan, you’ll be supporting the rapidly evolving legal needs of this dynamic and exciting sports media business.The successful candidate will work under the direction of the Legal Counsel, DAZN Japan, to provide legal support to all parts of the DAZN business in Japan, which will offer them the chance to work on a broad range of matters, including contract negotiations, legal research, and project implementation, working with the relevant business leads and other professionals.The role represents a fantastic opportunity for a junior or mid-level commercial and/or media lawyer to move into one of the most exciting businesses in the sports industry. Although the role will have some core responsibilities, it is deliberately broad in scope to give you the chance to obtain a wide skill and knowledge base.As our new Associate Legal Counsel, you’ll have the opportunity to:
- You’ll be an integral part of DAZN’s legal function, which is responsible for providing support to all aspects of the DAZN Japanese business - from rights acquisitions, marketing, consumer regulations, distribution agreements and commercial premises. As our new Associate Legal Counsel, you’ll have the opportunity to:
- Draft and negotiate major sports rights deals, high value contracts with technology service providers, and partnership and distribution agreements with important partners in Japan
- Take the lead on the legal support for important projects for the Japanese business
- Provide legal support to the business in relation to relevant laws and regulations, including privacy law and competition law to ensure product compliance (with assistance from other members of the team or outside counsel, where necessary)
- Manage and update templates for local use, as well as support the development of routine legal awareness and training activities for the Japan business
You’ll be set up for success if you have:
- Although DAZN is always willing to consider a wide range of candidates for its roles, as a guide the successful candidate is likely to have the following experience level and skills:
- Around 1-3 years of post-qualification experience as lawyer (qualified in Japan or another jurisdiction) working in a highly successful and recognized commercial and/or media team either in private practice, or in-house
- An excellent ability to write and speak in Japanese and English (ability to review legal documents in both languages will be highly valued)
- Experience negotiating and drafting commercial contracts and technology contracts
- Excellent technical legal skills, especially first-class drafting, and interpretative abilities
- Ability to conduct research and draft reports relate to Japanese law
- A well-rounded personality with the capacity to work effectively with others from a wide range of professional disciplines
- Self-starter with the ability to make independent decisions and the judgment to know when to seek guidance
