Job Description

**Open to applicants from Hong Kong, Tokyo, Australia amp; Singapore**

We are seeking an energetic and self-motivated reporter to join a team of global editors and journalists to cover Asia’s dynamic market for alternatives investments, with a focus on private equity and venture capital.

Specifically, the reporter will write exclusive, insightful, and actionable stories about private equity firms and their limited partners for publication across the PEI Media stable of titles, including Private Equity International, Venture Capital Journal, Secondaries Investor and Private Debt Investor.

The reporter will produce content that leads with analysis and has an informed perspective. This will involve collaborating with the Hong Kong Bureau Chief and teams in London and New York on ideas, sourcing, and structuring articles with an eye to delivering valuable information that consistently speaks to our audience of general partners, limited partners and industry service providers.

Other responsibilities include writing articles that profile firms and people; identifying and analysing trends in fundraising and other activities; and other key private markets community developments such as personnel moves. At all times, the goal is to explore the impact of those developments rather than merely recounting the news.

  • Working with the Hong Kong Bureau Chief to produce a regular mix of perspective-led news and analysis for privateequityinternational.com, its magazine (10 issues per year) and affiliate titles.
  • Conduct interviews and develop relationships with sources and readers (GPs, their LPs, and others) to break news.
  • Regularly attend industry events either virtually or in-person (when covid-19 restrictions are lifted). The reporter may also be asked to moderate panels at the company’s conferences (either in person or virtually).
  • Communicate regularly with the Hong Kong Bureau Chief and participate in global content planning meetings.
  • In consultation with the Hong Kong Bureau Chief, identify and pursue podcast and video content opportunities relating to the Asia-Pacific region.
  • Be highly attentive to details and accuracy.
  • A commitment to including diverse voices in reporting.
  • This role will involve gaining access to and publishing sensitive and privileged information. The reporter will be expected to understand and adhere to journalistic ethics and consult with editors on any potential conflicts.

Requirements

Qualifications amp; Skills

  • Bachelor’s degree required
  • 1-3 years as a reporter, financial or business journalism experience preferred
  • Understanding of financial markets and investing is a plus
  • Fluent in English. Proficiency in Japanese or Korean a plus.
  • Strict adherence to deadlines.
  • Excellent observation and judgment skills to extract develop and develop compelling stories.
  • Superb communication and networking skills.
  • Computer proficiency, such as using the Microsoft Office Suite, online search tools, databases, WordPress, and familiarity with social media platforms, such as LinkedIn.
  • Infogram experience a plus.

Location This role can be based in either Hong Kong, Tokyo or Singapore with hybrid working between home and office.

Hours Monday to Friday 09:30 - 18:00
